My description of Andrew Conner’s “Cyclosa Confusa” performance reminds me of Lucien’s reviews of stage plays in Balzac’s Lost Illusions. Something along the lines of, “Then another scene change! Here we are in a parlor, two actresses come onstage, one of them is probably a maid, they sure have nice legs! Uh-oh, the rich doctor is angry about something! He chases the fellow all around the room! WHOOPS! They fall down! Ha Ha! Then something else happens! Then people talk for a while – how boring! Luckily the girls all have pretty legs!”
That’s a paraphrase, not a direct quotation. I am rather embarrassed about posting this page, and probably wouldn’t if I was editing for quality at all. I don’t think theater writing is my forte.
