Hello everyone! It’s come to my attention that my previous post (in which I explain my long absence and how comics will resume with a vengeance in April) was perhaps never visible to anyone not clicking through on Facebook – I’m sorry about that! That post is reiterated below the break, and in this paragraph, a link to my new apparel store where you can buy T-shirts and other swag with my Bernie Sanders design above, as well as a few other designs!
Everyone who reads this comic, hello!
If you’ve been following The Secret Life of Helen America for a while you have almost certainly noticed a gradual slowing down in the frequency of posts.
However, a lot of work has been going on “behind the scenes”. Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time is improve the image quality of these many pages of comics – so they look better on screen, and also so that they can, perhaps soon, be printed into an actual book. So I’ve been re-scanning and sometimes photographing pages, and trying to edit them so that they look uniformly good – a process I’m learning as I go along, just like everything else.
Here’s a sample of a comic in its previous incarnation:
And here’s the new, improved scan:
Hopefully you’ll agree with me that it looks better! It certainly looks better as a physical print, online images are a whole different alchemy I’m still learning to translate.
I’m REALLY excited at having beautiful, print-worthy scans of all my art (as well as working on other projects, like some large-scale paintings, and finishing a certain book/album project that has been years in the making…) but it’s been difficult to keep up with posting at the same time as I’m working on all these other things. I really also want to make this website look like it’s fewer than one hundred years old.
So I’m going to take a brief hiatus from posting diary comics, and look out for some improvements to the site and the archives, as well as new comics, in April!
