Helen America started out as a creator in the zine scene, and her Strawberry Ghost minicomics, with their dreamlike and disturbing black-and-white vignettes, can still sometimes be found in finer bookshops around the world. Her comics have appeared in the Line Land comics anthology, published by ZFA Works, and in LOTOS, an anthology of dream comics curated by Bunny Lee. In 2012 she began publishing online The Secret Life of Helen America, a catalog of intimate true details about life, death, friendship, sexual activity both professional and amateur, mood disorders, existential crises, and advanced philosophy.

She moonlights as a singer/songwriter, having released her first album of original works, In the Palace of Green Porcelain, in 2009. She is currently working on her second album and plans to release it in the summer of 2017 (it would have been sooner, but she’s been busy drawing comics all these years).

She is also a member of band/arts collective/local legend Princess Seismograph, whose long-awaited first release (a full-length album of music and accompanying 72-page full color art book) will be available in Spring of 2017.

She lives in Seattle.
